Flumadine Flu Medication
Flumadine® (rimantadine hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used to treat the flu. It can be used in the following ways:
- To prevent the flu, such as during outbreaks, in adults and children one year of age and older
- To treat the flu in individuals age 16 years and older to help shorten the duration of symptoms.
The medication comes in tablet form and is taken once or twice a day. When treating the flu, Flumadine works better the earlier it is started. Ideally, it should be started within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms.
Most people tolerate this medicine well; however, it can cause side effects, including nausea, insomnia, and dizziness. Also, make sure your healthcare provider has information about other medications you are taking before using Flumadine.
