Symmetrel Drug Interactions
When certain medications, such as stimulants or antipsychotic medications, are taken with Symmetrel, drug interactions may occur. These interactions could either reduce the effectiveness of the medicines or increase your risk for developing side effects. To avoid these potentially serious complications, talk to your healthcare provider about drug interactions with Symmetrel that may apply to you.
Symmetrel® (amantadine hydrochloride) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to Symmetrel drug interactions include:
- Anticholinergic medications, such as:
- Atropine
- Belladonna (Donnatal®, B&O Supprettes®, Bellamine S®)
- Benztropine (Cogentin®)
- Clidinium (Librax®)
- Clozapine (Clozaril®)
- Darifenacin (Enablex®)
- Dicyclomine (Bentyl®)
- Diphenhydramine (Benadryl®, Tylenol PM®)
- Glycopyrrolate (Robinul®)
- Haloperidol (Haldol®)
- Homatropine (Hycodan®)
- Hyoscyamine (Levsin®)
- Ipratropium (Atrovent®)
- Scopolamine (Transderm Scop®)
- Tiotropium (Spiriva®)
- Tolterodine (Detrol®)
- Trospium (Sanctura®)
- Antipsychotic medications (used to treat schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders)
- Intranasal flu vaccine (FluMist™)
- Quinine or quinidine
- Stimulants, including cocaine, amphetamines, ADHD medications, and various other medicines
- Triamterene-HCTZ (Dyazide®, Maxzide®).
