Tamiflu Precautions and Warnings

There are many Tamiflu precautions and warnings that you should be aware of prior to starting the drug. For example, Tamiflu is not recommended if you are nursing. Also, on rare occasions, Tamiflu has been reported to cause serious skin rashes. Tamiflu precautions and warnings also extend to any medications you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, antacids, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Tamiflu: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

Prior to taking Tamiflu^® (oseltamivir phosphate), you should tell your healthcare provider if you have:

Liver disease or liver failure
Kidney disease or kidney failure
Heart disease
Lung disease
Any allergies to medicines.

Let your healthcare provider know if you are:

Pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant
Breastfeeding.

Also, tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you currently take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, antacids, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Specific Tamiflu Precautions and Warnings

Here are a few precautions and warnings to be aware of when taking Tamiflu:

Tamiflu, on rare occasions, has been reported to cause allergic reactions or serious skin reactions. If you notice an unexplained rash while taking Tamiflu, talk to your healthcare provider.
Tamiflu is a pregnancy Category C medicine, meaning that it could potentially harm your unborn child. If you are pregnant, you should only take Tamiflu if the benefit outweighs the possible risk to your unborn child.
It is not known whether Tamiflu passes through breast milk, so it is recommended that you do not take Tamiflu while nursing (unless the benefit outweighs the potential risk to your baby). Talk to your healthcare provider about what to do in your particular situation.
