Drug Interactions With Zidovudine

Ganciclovir, atovaquone, and methadone are some of the medications that may cause drug interactions with zidovudine. These interactions can either increase the level of zidovudine in your blood and increase your risk of side effects or decrease the level of zidovudine in your blood and reduce the medication's effectiveness. Other medicines that may lead to drug interactions with zidovudine include probenecid, ritonavir, and stavudine.

 

Drug Interactions With Zidovudine: An Overview

Zidovudine (Retrovir®) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to zidovudine drug interactions include:
 
  • Atovaquone (Mepron®)
 
 
  • Fluconazole (Diflucan®)
 
  • Ganciclovir (Cytovene®)
 
  • Interferon medications, such as:
o Interferon alfa-2a (Roferon®-A)
o Interferon alfa-2b (Intron® A)
o Interferon alfa-2b and ribavirin (Rebetron®)
o Interferon alfa-n3 (Alferon® N)
o Interferon alfacon-1 (Infergen®)
o Interferon gamma-1b (Actimmune®)
o Peginterferon alfa-2a (Pegasys®)
o Peginterferon alfa-2b (PEG-Intron®)
  • Methadone (Dolophine®, Methadose®)
 
 
  • Probenecid (Benuryl®)
 
  • Ribavirin (Copegus®, Rebetol®, Ribasphere®, Virazole®)
 
  • Rifampin (Ridadin®)
 
  • Rifapentine (Priftin®)
 
 
 
  • Valganciclovir (Valcyte™)
